National Standards of MPR Publication

MPR publication is a type of publication that is based on a unique link code carried by a machine readable matrix code symbol. It is a printed publication based compound digital publishing method which is capable of accurately linking multiple publication representations and carriers.

MPR publication consists of three elements: MPR books/periodicals, MPR digital media files and MPR code used to link MPR books/periodicals and MPR digital media files.

An MPR book/periodical is the main part of an MPR publication and is also the only constant content carrier in an MPR publication. An MPR book/periodical is a printed book/periodical with images and text and MPR codes printed on pages in a traditional way. Thanks to the unique design of MPR code symbols, it is almost invisible to the naked eyes but only read by optical recognition devices. So there is no difference between an ordinary book/periodical and an MPR publication in appearance.

An MPR digital media file is a combination of multiple types of digital content such as MPR book/periodical related audios, images and videos. After it is published on the internet, readers can download it to a dedicated device that is capable of playing the digital content.

MPR code is a code comprising 16 decimal digits and used for linking contents in two or more representations. It is segmented into two fields-- the prepositive code and subsequent code. The prepositive code is used for linking two objects in whole, in other words, uniquely identifying the link between two representations. The subsequent code is used for linking content in the two objects. It is set according to actual needs for jointly rendering. The capacity of MPR code system is large enough for the global need for unique identification of MPR publication for a long period of time.

Subsequent codes of MPR codes are managed by MPR code management organization while subsequent codes can be assigned by book producers (publishers) according to the principles specified in the MPR national standards.

GB/T 27937 MPR Publication consists of five parts:
Part 1 Coding principles of MPR codes
Part 2 Specification of MPR code symbol
Part 3 General Producing Specification
Part 4 Requirements and test methods of print quality of MPR code symbol
Part 5 Basic management specification
